A man who went to Borehamwood with £900 to buy a motorbike he had seen on Gumtree was robbed and bitten by a dog.

The victim travelled from Essex to buy the bike but when he got to the location he was confronted by a 21 year old man, who was brandishing a machete.

Prosecutor Kevin West told Luton Crown Court Wednesday 11th February that a dog called Simba attacked the victim during the robbery.

After the robbery was reported, the police went to a nearby address and found the robber hiding under a pile of laundry.

The man, who is now 22, pleaded guilty to robbing the victim of £900 on 23th August last year. He also admitted having an offensive weapon, the machete.

Alex Britton, defending, said: “He was 21 at the time and has no convictions for robbery or having an offensive weapon.”

He said his client had not committed any offences between 2010 and 2015 when he was convicted of criminal damage.

Mr Britton asked for sentence to be adjourned for a probation officer to report.

Recorder Steven Gasztowicz QC agreed. He will be sentenced on March 2.
