The team put together by Lawtons Criminal Solicitors to help clients’ charged by Luton Borough Councils’ Trading Standard Department achieved notable success at Luton Crown Court.
Our clients’ had been charged with Fraud Act offences, which were always denied and eventually dropped. They also faced a number of charges under the provisions of the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008, the ‘Door Step Selling Regulations’.
As a result of the work of the specialist regulatory lawyers from Lawtons and instructed Counsel, the case was dropped against one of the defendants and the other two pleaded to reduced charges and were dealt with by way of a 12 month conditional discharge and a cost order.
The Judge made clear that this was not a case of cowboy builders, the Trading Standards Department had tried to suggest it was.
