Have you been arrested?

The first step you must take on being arrested or charged with an offence is to seek out expert legal representation. Your future and reputation are on the line, and you need the right guidance to set you on the right track through the process that lies ahead. Contact our specialist criminal defence solicitors today for the assistance you need.

Whether you or a family member needs legal advice on a specific aspect of the law, or you are seeking expert legal representation, the criminal defence lawyers at Lawtons specialise in every aspect of the process, with the exception of advocacy (participation in court proceedings) which sits within the remit of a barrister.

Expert solicitors here when you need us

At Lawtons we provide 24/7 legal representation, and are available in person at our Luton office or over the phone. Please make an appointment in order to speak to us at our Luton office.

If you have been detained by the police, it is vital that a criminal defence solicitor is present before any form of formal questioning or a police interview takes place. Contact Lawtons as soon as you are able to do so. The more innocent you are of the offence in question, the more crucial it is that you are represented by an experienced solicitor. Even at a voluntary police interview this is highly recommended. This is the first step you can take towards achieving the best possible outcome in your case.

If you are asked to attend any police station in Luton or Bedfordshire on a voluntary basis, we can attend the police station to guide you through the procedure.

Lawtons’ team of criminal defence solicitors regularly handle criminal cases at Luton magistrates’ court and at Crown Courts across Bedfordshire and the Home Counties.

We understand that each individual case and client varies and we pride ourselves on providing personalised legal advice and assistance in any criminal charges that have been made against you.

FAQs

What should I do if I am summoned to magistrates’ court?

If you receive a postal requisition, which is a summons to magistrates’ court, you will be told what offence you are accused of and when you are expected in court. Please contact us if this happens in order to ascertain the best course of action.

I don’t know whether I am guilty or not guilty. What should I do?

In some cases the question of whether or not you have committed the offence of which you are accused may not be clear-cut. Get in touch with Lawtons and we can take steps to advise you on how the evidence that police may have against you could influence your plea.

What is the difference between magistrates’ court and Crown Court?

Any case will be heard in a magistrates’ court initially, and may then be referred up to Crown Court. Some types of offences can only be heard in one type of court or the other, and the Crown Court generally deals with more serious offences.
