Lawtons were approached by a young man accused of multiple rapes on a former partner, who already had the Duty Solicitor followed by another privately funded solicitor and barrister.

He felt uncomfortable with the representation and therefore researched law firms with expertise in dealing with matters of this nature. He was allocated to Joanne Cestaro who took over the case from the previous solicitors and instructed Janice Brennan of Lamb Building as the barrister best suited to the case.

After that, the team worked tirelessly to ensure all necessary information was collated and a defence case was prepared with absolute attention to detail.

The young man who had no previous experience with the criminal justice system was understandably extremely anxious and it was important for the team to ensure that his anxiety and welfare were managed throughout the lengthy proceedings.

Following a 7-day Trial at Ipswich Crown Court, unanimous Not Guilty verdicts were returned on all counts.

Our client and his family were delighted.Contact us today for thorough and professional legal representation in all rape and sexual offence matters.
