Our client appeared before St Albans Crown Court on Friday 20th October for Sentence in connection with a case of GBH where he had punched the captain of a rival football club to the jaw in the closing moments of a game in late 2015.
The game between Ware Sports FC and Belstone FC ended when our client wrongly believed that his brother, a fellow player was about to be assaulted. In an attempt to defend him, our client punched the Captain of the other team once to jaw, unfortunately resulting in him sustaining a broken jaw.
Accepting that it was out of character and an isolated incident, the Sentencing Judge commented that it had behaved “rashly and badly” but was persuaded by Alex Britton that even for this serious case of GBH, a prison sentence was not required. Instead, with an Order that our client pay compensation for the injuries and loss of earnings caused and with a requirement to undertake Unpaid Work in the Community for 120 hours, our client retained his freedom.
